Grade 2 and Kindergarten Buddy Reading

One of the activities that we are participating in this year is buddy reading with Kindergarten. Each Grade 2 student chooses a picture book from the selection taken from the library to share with one of the younger children in the school. The logic behind providing this opportunity for the students is that when they have a genuine audience, they will be more motivated to read clearly. In addition, students take the initiative to read a book that is maybe a bit of a challenge and requires learning new words. The Grade 2 teacher has seen an improvement in the reading abilities of the students since this weekly session was initiated at the beginning of the school year.
